Well said Twin and Aaroneast..That has been the whole point, listen to yourself and not others...I did try the Nike One this weekend and I have to say it did improve my shots around the green. I have been working on spinning the ball and this ball will check up nicely. I must admit I scuffed a few balls though, the cover is softer and I may have come down on it to hard. But it backspun 3 to 4 inches on the green. As I am getting better on short game I think I will use the Nike on these shots but keep the E6+ for the tee box... MARTY

too bad you have to use the same ball throughout or Id have one for the tee, one for chips, and one for putting The only sure way to find a ball sliced into the woods is to hit a provisional straight down the fairway.

That's funny but, I have actually played a round of golf with a guy that did that. He had 3 or 4 different makes of golf balls in his pocket & he kept switching them on the tee, fairway & green. The funniest thing was it didn't even help him score better so I'm not sure why he was doing it. "Froggie" Brown ----- Life Member Since October 2006 -----

I could see using a low spin distance ball off the tee for par 4/5 and a higher spin ball for short par 3s where you want to hold the green or maybe spin a chip if you miss the green. This would be w/in the rules I believe. "Froggie" Brown ----- Life Member Since October 2006 -----

The reason I said this was because I still slice off the box every now and then and I would kick my butt if I put a $4 ball in the woods. As I said before the course I play on is tight with woods on both sides of fairways. I hit it out about 220 and the ball starts turning right, not all the time but enough to stop me from hitting high dollar balls off the tee.. MARTY

dont you have to use the same ball (or the same type if you lose one)? I was pretty sure that was a rule. The only sure way to find a ball sliced into the woods is to hit a provisional straight down the fairway.

Yes, in tournament play you must keep the same ball. However, if you are just out playing to have fun, who cares...save your money... MARTY

If you are shank'in balls into the woods constantly or playing a bit o'Army golf, then I would would definetly find a ball that is inexpensive with very little spin. But if you're generally safe off the tee, and on or around the greens, your short game becomes a premium for scoring. And a ball with some feel and some spin is paramount. The fun lies in finding that "right" ball for you. So true. And believe me I tried a ton of them before deciding on the Nike's. I used Precept Uri-Tri Distance, Wilson Staff 50/50, Top Flite Freak, Callaway HX Hot Bite, Nike Ignite, and several others, then finally the Nike One Black. I'm sure I'll break down and buy Nike One Platinum's soon. The place I bought my slingshot 4D's from has them $29.99 doz.

Jut my 2 cents worth. For those of us who live in the woods and and are drawn to the water like a moth to flames; Walmart has a very inexpensive ( cheap ) ball. Titech runs about 10 bucks for 18 balls. If, like me, you can't hit it straight don't pay the big bucks 'till you can. Maybe it was only worth about a penny, but the thought is the same.

I have purchased golf balls from Walmart several times when they put them on clearence. They have the 200 count 2 3/4" wood tees cheaper than anywhere else in town so I always get them there. "Froggie" Brown ----- Life Member Since October 2006 -----

I've seen tour pros in a tournement toss a ball to a fan after a hole in one. Ball was not damaged they were just offering up a gift to a fan. They pull another ball out for the next hole and procede. I think the rule states that you must complete a hole w/the same ball you started the hole with unless it becomes damaged in which case you can remove it from play after showing it to your playing partner. Once you finish a hole, you can put a different ball in play. Thus, you would be able to hit a different brand ball on a par 3 than say a par 5. You just have to play the hole w/the ball you teed off with. Could be wrong.

In tournament play what ever Brand/type ball you strart with is the only ones you can play, you can't change equiptment during a round. Regardless, If you tee off with a Titlest prov1 marked 2 you must complete that hole with the same ball. If it is lost you incure a penalty replace the ball and complete the hole. You are allowed to change on the next tee as long as it is the same brand/type as you started the round with. Keep it in the short grass!

Sorry guys, I did leave that open. You are correct,in a tourney you must use the same ball that you hit from the tee until hole is complete and then you can change ball on next hole if you want. One ball per hole unless damaged. Of course if you want to pitch your ball to me as a gift, please don't sign it first as I will be playing with it on the next hole... MARTY

So as my luck continues, I went to the Callaway Vendor night at the PGA tour superstore and got a $20 gift card just for coming through the door. Then I end up winning a putting contest and got another $20 gift card. Me and two other guys made the 5 foot putt. Then only me and one other guy made the 10 foot putt. We both missed the 15 footer. I made it on the second try and he missed. I purchased the Top Flite Gamer and a box of Nike One Platinum. Can't wait to hit the course again! .....and I got a free pair of Callaway socks for trying on a pair of Callaway golf shoes. MegaDad

Hey Twin, I was there!!I saw you and didn't know that was you. I did get the socks and a gift card for $10 for doing demo's on clubs. I also got a 3 pack sleeve of Callaway Tour balls. I had a Cobra ball cap on so they tried hard to change my mind. Good putt you made. MARTY

Well, sorry we didn't get to introduce ourselves. I'm mad I missed the other $10 and the free sleeve of golf balls. I went down there for the purpose of getting that sleeve. Were they the Tour i or ix? I was putting with the ix. Did you see that green break to the left just near the hole? I was aiming everything at the right edge of the cup. JB I'll meet you on the strip. I'm a believer in sharing the wealth so we should be okay. MegaDad

They were Callaway ix and I will play with them Saturday. I will post my thoughts on here Sat. night....They do feel soft so maybe I'll get good spin with them...Yes the floor at the PGA store has two breaks in it, the hole you played and the lower hole by the putters. I thought you had a good line on it, your stroke looked good, must be the practice. Well done... MARTY

Marty, I feel reasonably sure you will like the tour iX. I found it felt like it exploded of the tee. and had plenty of spin when hit properly. Received a sleeve back in march while in Memphis for the Partners tourny at Southwind. Just happened to go to the Golfsmith store the night before and they gave me a sleeve because I am so good looking. It had to be something like that. MJ, TOSTSTP

LOL JB. I agree, I regulary play the ix as it is long of the tee, straight for iron play and has very nice feel around and on the carpet. I think you will enjoy its overall performance Marty. Have fun!

All I can say about the ix is that it feels good off the putter face......I finally get to try this Top Flite Gamer ball out tomorrow. Heard enough about it, I want to know what all the fuss is so I'm going to put it to the test agains a Nike One Platinum. MegaDad

I watched a show on the Discovery channel the other day on Recycled Golf Balls. It is a big business and has quite a big demand, just the Walmart sales alone are in the millions..So enjoy your recycled balls and know that if you lose them you may be buying them again later.. MARTY

Marty I just played today with the new Bridgestone tour 330 RX balls. I usually use E6 or titlest NXT-Tour when I play and I use a UPRO and measure my drives. I also use software that helps me analyze my game. What it showed today was triple the fairway drives from usual and 18 yds further. Now granted this is just the first time and I will continue to keep track and post as I do. The down side is the are the $40 a box group. The good side is I dropped 11 on my game today. I definately like this

Yep, I concur. The new Bridgestone RX is a very nice ball and I also upgraded from the E6. I am currently testing the Nike Black and I like the results, just not the price. Snake Eyes also has a 3 piece ball that I want to try, just because the snake eyes on the ball works with my Cobra clubs. A snakey theme going there to match my snakey game, Not that I strike fast like a Cobra but I am apt ta spit at cha. Copenhagen and Golf go together for me... MARTY

I posted this a bit ago under ball types, but since the B330-RX was mentioned and a new ball I am truly excited about, I will post it again under this thread. @ I recently picked up a dozen of Bridgestone's new Tour B330-RX and have been playing with it side-by-side next to Titliest's ProV1. Paid 34.99 for the RX compared to 45.99 for the ProV. Distance off the tee favored the RX, it was a true boring straight trajectory. Workability favored the ProV off the tee. Iron play was almost a wash, both are great balls and I really did not see much difference in performance other than the RX was tad bit longer - both stopped on the greens nicely. Around the green the RX had a very nice soft feel but did release more than the ProV. ProV's are a ball you can throw at the pin and they hold very nicely...but I chipped in two off the green with the RX once I adjusted to its release. On the short grass, ProV's have always been a wonderful ball to putt, but was taken back by the feel factor of the RX as to how soft the ball felt coming off the face of the putter, yet rolled a bit hotter than the ProV on a very true line. Rolled my first putt about 10 feet past the hole, so again had to make an adjustment in speed, but once done, a pleasure to putt. Overall, both are very nice! But I a must say, Bridgestone is on to something with marketing their tour performance balls based on swing speed. The B330 is designed for a swing speed 112+, the B330-S 103-115 and the B330-RX <105. I fit into the latter category and was very impressed how this ball fit my game as I have never had good results with the B330 in the past. For both iron and driver play the RX was great, but it was the feel factor around and on the greens that most impressed me. I was very confident to play this ball from a variety of lies and when I had to open up the 58 degree for a short chip with not much green to work with, the ball stopped very nicely. The RX may not be for everyone, but for those with slower swing speeds wanting a high performance ball for a reasonable price, I would highly recommend. @

AaronEast, although I found the B330RX to be a nice ball, IMHO it did not out perform the PROV1 which I normally use or for that matter the Callaway Tour IX MJ, TOSTSTP

I just read this response and had to question where you got such data on spin!! The results you mentioned in regards to spin with a Sand Wedge were quite astonishing. We have tested over 94 brands of golf balls and the range of spin between brands is significantly tighter than the numbers you posted. If these spin numbers were actually true between those 3 brands the distances would be incredibly differnet. A wedge creating a ball spin of 11,000 on one ball and 5,500 on another would result in distances as much as 30 yards. The lower spin ball traveling that much further.

I was reading all the posts and couldn't help but respond. I would have to agree with the majority in the fact that it doesnt matter how the ball is made, it is how it plays for you. I started playing golf in Jan of this year and have found quite a few balls in the sticks. My best round to date is with the Taylor Made TP red just couldn't find the cup, 4 putted every hole! I was one of the ones sucked in by the hype of the B330-RX, ran out and bought a sleeve hoping it would help. I couldn't tell you how it works on the greens as I lost all three fairly quickly. What I did notice was how quick it left the club face and how far it carried, problem was I couldn't get the club face around fast enough to keep it from launching in a straight line at 35 degrees from the intended target line. Lost every one. I really would like to hear more on the Gamer ball as I cant find them in stock at any of the local stores and dont want to drive 45 min. to buy some.

Okay I know it's been a while since any responses but I keep reading, studying and using a variety of ball brands and levels. I have verified with my own use and tests, measured with GPS, that the surlyn covered balls do not go as far. Average is 10 yards shorter over any with the quality balls covering (just had brain cramp for name-sorry). I was very surprised with this and double checked every thing. I now just wished the Bridgestone 330 RX balls were cheaper as I do get another 8 yards everytime I use those but they are definately not cheap. Would love to hear other peoples experiences.

It's funny but after all this time, I am still using the E6+ as my main ball. I have tried high end and low end balls since this post first started. This ball responds more for me on a consistant basis than the high end balls. Try it for yourself. MARTY

I also have used the Be6 and have had good success with it for about 4 years. Christmas this year the kids bought me two boxes of B330-RX going to Florida in a month will let you know the difference on my return. Like Marty I also tried some of the high end balls.... did not perform as good as the Bridgestone e-6. Low and Slow drmoon......Life Member since 2004.....

I tried some Srixon ball at the end of the season last year. I swing in the 85-90mph range. I tried the AD-333, which is a 2-piece ball with a soft cover. Good driver distance, but a little more driver spin than I prefer. Excellent with short irons. Excellent value!!!! $20/dozen.
I also tried the Tri-Speed. 3-piece ball. Designed for a little lower swing speeds, but distance was about the same as AD-333. Less driver spin, but still performed very well around the greens. $25/dozen. Like this ball better than any I've tried. I'm a member at a pretty tight course, and I can swallow losing one of these a little easier than a $3-$4 ball. NIner Fan

Another one to throw into the mix is the new Nike Vapor. Played with it this week and I was very impressed! Long, straight, and great feel around the greens. Highly recommend. Going rate at our local golf store is 22.99 a dozen.
