LIFE MEMBER RIP-OFF "BENEFITS!!!

I have been a member since 2003, I became a Life Member in 2004. My question is, has anyone else had problems with their Life Member Product Testing? I have tested 4 products in the 4 years I have been a member. I have always filled out the forms not only by the PGA Tour Site, but by mail too. 4 times I have tested products. I have a handicap around 3, I tell people 5. I might have an off day and not play so well. Anyway, does anybody else with this type of handicap get CRAP products to test? I have not even got a sleeve of a new type of golf ball to try. I get sticks to help me with my chipping, I get a plastic golf ball with powder in it to see which way the wind is blowing. I can take a few pieces of grass and accomplish the same thing and its FREE!

Was anyone else promised (if you signed up for LIFE MEMBERSHIP before 2004 or in 2004) that you would test a product every 1 to 2 months? Has anyone with a 5 handicap gotten anything better then a sleeve of golf balls? What did we spend on this $300.00 plus dollars for a cheap travel golf bag and a couple other bags that match and are made for the travel bag. Have you used the garment bag? I get more wrinkles on my clothes using that thing then I would if I just folded them up and put them in a suitcase!

SO, DOES ANYONE ELSE FEEL RIPPED OFF???? I KNOW I DO! PLEASE IF THERE IS ANYONE ELSE THAT FEELS THE SAME WAY PLEASE ADD TO THIS TOPIC. HAS ANY ONE GOTTEN ANYTHING WORTH KEEPING AFTER BEING A MEMBER FOR 5 YEARS? LET ME KNOW!!!

I am obviously upset with the service I have received from this Special Golf Benefits Club! I could have spent that on my local muni course and got more out of my $300.00+ dollars.

VERY UNHAPPY,

R.A.S Life member since Feb 2004!!!

I have been a life member for a year now and it has paid for itself. I got the Burton cart bag ($160 value) and it's an awsome bag with my name on it. I won 3 dozen Bridgestone Tour B330's in the great golf giveaway ($120 value). I got 4 green fee rebates ($40 value). I also got the welcome kit, magazines and a couple of sleves of test balls (callaway & top flight).

Plus I have been using the posts over the year where I met some great guys. I also had the opertunity to play with 2 of the members, (Ducks in Dallas and Rev in Florida).

Another member, StevenBerry I think, won a great getaway vacation package.

With as many members as they have everyone can't test new irons, drivers or win vacations. Even if I didn't get the extras I did meeting fellow golfers to share a round with and using the posts is worth the $300 I paid.

Maybe it's the golf gods getting back at you! :)

Hey, Welcome to the boards RAS!

I've been a lifer since 1999. My handicap usually floats between 7 and 11. I've received some sleeves of golf balls to test and a velcro golf towel holder, which I liked but lost.  I also recieved some mittens made specifically for a push cart.  I don't remember being promised a test product every couple of months.  I never really expected to get anything great.  If I do, Ill just consider it a bonus.

My life member gift was a rainsuit that I still have.  It's not the greatest at repelling rain, but it's great for wearing over sweats and shoveling the snow or walking the dog on cold mornings.  I also like the magazine.  I've also purchased some products from the club.  Some I use all the time, and one I will never use.

All in all, I'm happy with the club.

PS.  It was KevinB from Hawaii who one the trip.

I've been a life member since 2001. Over the years I've tested sunscreen, a sleeve of golf balls (Maxfli Noodles) and recently received a logo'd ball marker and green repair tool (evidently targeted at corporate marketing). Nothing of any significance. My life membership bag was ripped by the airlines the first time I used it.

I've not used the club much until recently. The members I've met here on the the forum have been very helpful. So no, I don't feel "ripped-off"

I am with you RAS. I've been a "lifer" since 1999, HC around 20, and pretty much all I have tested are single sleeves of golf balls. Which I hate, because where I play there are a lot of environmental areas that if you barely miss the fairway and rough, the ball is lost. Hard to test a sleeve of balls that sometimes doesn't last 3 holes. Occassionally I get something different, but rare. The last product test was a club brush that was actually really nice and a great tool. But as far as getting a set of clubs, or a driver, or the like, never seen one. About the only thing I get (buy) from the club is the calendar, and this year I am disappointed cause they don't even list the tournaments like last year's. My only consolation is that they have to send me the magazine for as long as I am alive, and I hope I live to be 100.

Well, I'm glad to find out the products for testing are not assigned by handicap. I've always wondered about that. I'm a 16-20 and have gotten the same sticks and sleeves of balls that most everyone else has. Never heard of a product every couple of months offer. In reality, it seems to be every couple of years! Was a regular member for a couple of years and a life member since 2003. I got the golf bag combo thing (sits in the attic) and some other trinkets with my life membership. Never really got into it for the prizes, would be nice to win something though. Used to get the greens fee rebates which I did use but those stopped coming after the first year. Do really like the links to the weekly tourneys. Use those ALOT during the year to keep up with the standings while at work or away. Can't really say I feel ripped off, it would be nice to win something or get a better product for testing though...my 2cts...

For those of you that joined the club for what you could get free, that being merchandise, you wasted your money because the premium gift you received for becoming a life member you could have bought for less money. I for one have received alot more than my money's worth in the frienships that I have formed over the last couple of years. The golfers that I have met on this board and those from the board that I have been able to meet in person and play golf with has more than been worth the money I have spent on this club. There have been times that I have been frustrated with the club because of technical problems with there website that they did not want to own up to at the time but on the whole I have found most of the people  in the club that I have delt with, good people. Since the inception of this new format of the forum there have been alot of members that have been upset with all the changes, me being one of them, but then I am not generally not happy with change. But in the defense of the club, they have been responsive to complaints and if you give it time I feel they will get this forum to a better place. If you just complain in a forum topic they will probably not see it, but if you address your complaint in the first topic at the head of the forum, if it is a viable complaint they will get back you. If you are just complaining to hear your self complain, take it somewhere else.........

You can still get the green fee rebates simply by contacting the club. You also can get the free tournament pass. JB said his took only two weeks. I emailed the club at his suggestion and have received a confirmation email that I will be receiving mine soon. Four $10 rebates/year, tournament pass/year, magazine for life, and occasional freebies ends up OK if you like the magazine. I had received the magazine for several years before converting to a life membership. The rebate of past subscription fees meant that in reality I was setting a long term subscription (assuming Partners Club would be around for awhile).

I didn't have any real expectations of receiving some extremely valuable equipment (but it would be a nice bonus). To me it appears that most of the "test products" people have received are the equivalent of mass marketing give-aways. So, if you joined with the expectation that you'd get some nice new equipment I think you will be disappointed.

A person should be able to express their opinions, without being told to take it somewhere else!  MJ, I don't think you know what the original poster's experience was, so don't be so quick to judge.  I also think that the club made promises that they haven't kept, and don't really see the value in becoming a Life Member.  Some people talk about meeting other people of similar interests, and that makes up for the other shortcomings in the Club, but I travel on business frequently, and don't have that luxury.  Let's listen to all the comments, and forward them to the appropriate people, and maybe we can get things changed that way!

tilahif, The reason I said to go somewhere else is there is nothing we the members can do to solve there problems and it gets old reading posts from people when all they do is complain. It seems some people will come on the forum for no other reason. I don't know how long you have been around the partners forum, but a lot of good things happen here and we really don't need stuff like that........

I sent mine in and the club sent me a refund check. It takes 3 or 4 weeks to get the refund. I used all 4 rebate coupons last year and I plan on doing the same this year.

Please, someone explain how to complete the Avatar and Photo lines in order to get a photo on the forums. A face makes it more personal.

p.s. DANAHALSON is a corporate acronym.

Iv'e been a life member and tester for two years and have only gotten to test 1 sleeve of golf balls. Do I fell riped off hell yes. If you've been a member for less time and tested more then 1 thing consider yourself lucky.

I'm not sure what people actually expect from their life memberships; I've been a life member since 2002, and I'm satisfied with the benefits that I've received.  I've only had a few testing opportunities, but part of that is my fault; I forgot to return the surveys for a couple test items.

The luggage set has served me well over the years.  The garment bag has gotten a lot of use, and my golf bag travel cover has been very handy since one of the airlines shredded my "club glove" travel cover.  I enjoy the monthly magazine, enjoy reading these forums, and still enter the contests faithfully, even though I've yet to win any of the prize offerings.

My only problem with the club was the unsolicited mailing of merchandise "on approval."  The coin/token sets and video tapes that were sent out a couple years back were a bit of a pain to return; after a couple phone calls and letters, the unwanted merchandise stopped appearing in my mailbox.

One other positive note about the life membership - I won't have to pay for any of the benefits again --for the rest of my life, and I have no plans on departing any time soon.

The best benefit, which may well be available to anyone who chooses to log on the club web site, is the opportunity the converse with others who share my passion for, level of enjoyment of Golf, the Greatest Game of All.  The nice people that I have "met" through these forums are the best benefit available to anyone.  Although I've not yet personally met anyone from the club on the links, I feel like I've made hundreds of new golf friends, right here in these boards.

The club is what you make it.  If you join for free "stuff," you may possibly be disappointed.  If you joined out of your love of the game, you'll surely enjoy your membership.

I know some of you are upset with the test product benifit but, the guidelines are  as follows:

*****************

  • If any of your Profile information changes, please submit another Profile. Resubmitting your Profile will not affect the time it will take for you to receive a test product.
  • To remain an eligible tester, you must have submitted a report on any products you have previously tested.
  • To remain an eligible tester, you must submit a new Profile after testing a product.
  • You are not eligible to test for 1 year after receiving a product, unless there is a shortage of testers with your qualifications.

    ******************

The product test profile is at the bottom of the member tested page in the equipment section.

Been a lifer since 1997 and have only tested 1 product, last year, and in my opinion it was terrible.  I do not feel ripped off simply because I did not join for the free stuff.  It was amazing though that after I filled out a new profile, first 1 in ten years, that I did receive something to test pretty quick.  Now I need to send the form back.

I got a Nickent 3-wood in the mail a couple of months ago.  Nice looking club, but so-so performance.

I'm trying to re-register, but the link at the bottom of the member reviews page isn't working.  Anyone know a working link?  Thanks.

I just received a letter in the mail stating that I needed to pay for, or return  a video that came with the lifetime membership package. Funny thing is I wasn't even made aware that this was a product they wanted me to pay for, it just came in the package with the rest of the member perks they send you.  It is inexpensive but I object to that type of salesmanship. I believe the PGA Tour Partners club is to nice of a club to restort to this. I realize most people will just send the check (since it's inexpensive), but the point is I didn't order it, I wsn't made aware of the fact it was an item they were selling, and I expect more from the people allowing their name to be used with this club, namely Arnold Palmer and Tom Lehman. I am beginning to wonder if this was a good decision.

well Tom it's unfortunate that we don't all get to test a product or two for some stupid reason but you may want to resubmit your application again and hope for the best.

It must be the luck of the draw.  I am a life member since 1999.  I have not had one test product worth keeping.  Some day my boat will come in.

Trust me when I say some of the stuff is crap I've tested bug wipes that would keep wood elves and playing partners away (beer girl too) and some sticky things that go on your clubs to help show where you are hitting the ball (masking tape will do the same)

As I have said I have been a lifer since 2003, went online everyday and entered the contests. Filled out test profile. counting the three years I was a yearly member I have been associated with the club since 2000. In that time I have recieved 1 two ball sleeve of Bridgstone B-330, I used them filled out the form and sent it in. redid my tester profile, now that was a couple of years ago. I got a lot of the vidio's and bought about 6 then I called the club and asked that no more unsolicited merchandise be sent. Never got another unsolicited item. I never really used the posts or the chat room untill abot 2006 when I semi retired. Found out I was missing the best offer the club had. I have made numerous friends and have read some interesting posts, on a wide varity of subjects and have found it not only fun but educational. In Dec.2006, I got a letter that my name was selected for the trip to Waccama golf trail in South Carolina. needless to say I was both happy and suprized. I had to fill out o form and promise to pay any taxes on the amount over $600.00. All in all I would say that the club has been on the up and up with me. I am not happy with the upgrade to the club site, as it is slower and more confusing than was the old site. I have never used the rebate for green fees offer as yet as I always forget the reciept. (my bad) one day I may use that but in the mean time I will continue to utilize the parts of the club that are of use to me. If they ever take the board away I will probably loose intrest.

In closing, please remember that if you want the most out of your membersnip it will be up to you if you see something you don't like let them know it is a long slow process but they eventualy respond.

It seems to me that a forum is a place to talk about common interests, and problems.  I think that's what the previous poster was doing, but I'll let bygones be bygones.  No, I haven't been around the forum long, but am a Life Member, and don't have a lot of time to post.  I wasn't slamming you, I just think that most negative posters will go elsewhere, if no one responds to them.  If someone has a genuine gripe, or problem, it doesn't take much to try to help them out, or explain why the club does certain things.

Tihalif, I am more than willing to work with people, if I am able, with there problems of complaints. I have been on this forum for a long time and am not one to go off like that with out some provocation. I am generally known as an easy going guy. My problem is the people who come to this forum just to bad mouth the partner's club. If you have a specific problem go to the horses' mouth and air your differences, don't come to the forum just to stir up hate and discontent. I have been around long enough to see people come on the forum for that purpose and that purpose only and it happened once to often and I lost it. So please accept my appology if you felt it was directed at you..........MJ

Well I have been a lifer, for almost a year now. I did not sign up to get a bunch of free stuff. I did it for the magazine, in which I enjoy, figure up yearly costs of subscribing by the year!! The Cart Bag is not that bad, however, I still do not have a clue about the luggage... I wish I had a couple of sets of them!! As far as test products I do believe they ought to match the hatch, but, like I say the magazine and web-site is what I wanted, and Lord willing, I'll get my money worth!! As far as the green fee rebates, I've never seen one before, it would be nice. The contests, someone has to win, I have not been lucky enough either. Publisher's Clearing House, has not made a mad dash for my door either!! A contest is a contest!!! My only dissagreement I have is that the Club sponsored Tourney's, should have a little better incentive!! Perhaps, an exemption for the following event, it doesn't have to be a new car, just a little more than a plaque, that is if you do win!! I mean, alot of folks travel a long ways just  to play and meet new folks and enjoy a nice course!! ( That means gas, airfair, hotels, food, and other related expenses, not to mention the large entry fee!! We belong to a good thing, it doesn't need to be knocked, if you don't like it because of free stuff, you do not need to be in it!! We need to work together and make it better, because it is all ready the best!!

I would have loved to go to the club sponsered tourny in Hawaai this year but it was price prohibitive. There is no way I could afford $5000.00 so that is out I like the magazine and I like the board, I did win a trrip and am waiting on the vouchers now I am having trouble with the sight, I am getting older now and don't have a lot of time to wait for the posts to load up and I know its not my computer as all the other sites I use are fast, I have written the club an email and phoned, If any of you folks are seeing the same slow stuff on the site let the club know.
Keep it in the short grass!
